Two independent current-mode, step-down outputs make up the switching regulator circuits of the LT 1940 dc/dc converter. Each output can deliver up to 1.4 A of current at voltages as low as 1.25V and each is synchronized to a single 1.1 MHz oscillator and is switched out-of-phase to minimize input ripple current. The 1.1-MHz constant frequency minimizes switching noise and reduces the size of external components, making the device suitable for wireless and other small-package communication products. Each of LT 1940’s two converters has its own shutdown and soft-start controls and each also generates a power-good signal when its output is in regulation to simplify power supply sequencing and interfacing with µCs and DSPs. The device is housed in a 16-pin thin shrink small outline package (TSSOP) that is thermally enhanced to simplify heatsinking. Price: $3.70 each/1,000. LINEAR TECHNOLOGY CORP. INC., Milpitas, CA.
