Designed for use with the company's Spartan and Virtex family of FPGAs, the LogiCORE finite impulse response (FIR) filter generator is claimed to deliver performance equal to that of programmable DSPs but with a 70% cost savings. The device is parameterizable, supporting a 2:256 tap- impulse response and a 1:32 bit input data/coefficient precision. Filter features include half-band, Hilbert Transforms, and interpolated filters. An implementation methodology known as distributed arithmetic maps filters to the FPGA architecture. Based on user specifications, the tool automatically generates a FIR filter including netlist, VHDL/Verilog simulation models and instantiation code. The filter generator can be downloaded free of charge at the company's website.
