By combining a member of the new TAS5xxx chipset family of digital audio amplifiers with DSP technology, the company claims that it has come up with a digital audio package that solves the "noise and hum" problems associated with today's conventional audio systems. The development is said to provide designers with a complete, end-to-end digital audio solution that keeps the audio signal in a digital format from source to speaker. For applications requiring decoding or additional audio processing, a programmable TMS320C54x DSP and a portfolio of algorithms are used to enable the host system to send digital data directly to the speakers from a CD, DVD, TV, game console, the Internet, or other sources. The DSP also provides audio processing for industry-standard formats, such as Dolby Digital, 3-D Surround Sound, DTS, MP3 and Advanced Audio Coding. For applications where high-quality post-processing is required, the TAS300x family of dedicated Digital Audio Processors can be used to run advanced on-chip filtering algorithms. And for interfacing with PCs, designers can use the TUSB3200 multi-channel USB Streaming Controller to connect digital audio systems bi-directionally to host systems. The digital audio amplifier chipset combines a TAS5000 pulse-width modulator and two TAS5100 H-bridges, with the SMT set used to drive the audio system's speakers digitally.
