Motor-Power Modules Reduce Design Time And Size

Forecasting time and space savings for sub-100W brushless dc motor applications, the Motion-SPM power modules combine six fast-recovery MOSFETs and three half-bridge, high-voltage ICs in 23-lead, 29 mm x 12 mm lead-free DIPs. The MOSFETs optimize system efficiency by lowering switching and conduction losses during low-current conditions while providing a wider reverse bias safe operating area than IGBTs with similar specs. Employing their body diodes as freewheeling diodes, the modules eliminate the need for additional components. The high-voltage ICs integrate a high-speed, level-shifting function that allows operation from a single supply voltage, a technique that eliminates the need for opto-isolation. For further space savings, the modules provide three divided negative dc-link terminals for inverter current sensing. The Motion-SPM offering consists of two modules: the 500V FSB50250 and FSB50450 with current ratings of 2A and 3A, respectively. FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR, South Portland, ME. (800) 341-0392.
