Embedded-system designers should be better able to manage power distribution using the MC33984 eXtreme switch IC. The dual 4-mΩ switch can independently control and diagnose two loads while protecting both itself and the system. Housed in 12- by 12-mm power-quad flatpacks, the switches provide high-level thermal characteristics. A serial peripheral interface enables programming, control, and diagnostics. Cost is $3.95 each in lots of 10,000.
