With a footprint of only 32 mm in diameter and height of 1.7 mm, the nuvoDisc family of flat, brushless dc motors is well-suited for space-constrained applications such as portable respirators and bar code scanners. The nuvoDisc is over 75% shorter and 90% lighter than conventional flat motors. The motor’s high-speed, slot-less design significantly reduces vibration and eliminates cogging to provide smoother operation and better accuracy for maintaining a stable speed compared with conventional miniature flat motors. A slotted design is also available for applications that require detent torque, such as damper control in the HVAC industry. The motors offer speeds up to 50,000 rpm and mechanical power output of up to 30W (10 mNm of maximum continuous output torque). The brushless design eliminates mechanical wear to maximize reliability, and high-performance ball bearings offer a long life span. Prototypes can be ordered now.
