Unveiled as the industry’s first mixed-signal IC with a complete set of configurable and customizable analog functions, the Structured Architecture of Bridges and Regulators (S.A.B.Re) device integrates a large number of features that can be configured and customized. These include motor drivers, regulators, an a/d converter, op amps, and voltage comparators. Some architectural changes are programmable via the serial interface and/or general purpose I/Os while more complex functions can be customized with metal layers with specific macro functions. The metal customization does not modify active parts of the silicon, minimizing undesired parasitic effects. The device, primarily developed for motion and power-supply chores in printer applications, can address any high-power, high-voltage analog, and motor applications across the industrial segment. Its main components are four configurable bridges that can also function as switching regulators or power chargers, a variable-voltage buck switching regulator, switching regulator controller, linear regulator, multi-channel configurable 9-bit a/d converter, two op amps, bi-directional serial interface, and several general-purpose I/Os. Samples are available now with volume production planned for the fourth quarter. Prices range from $2.20 to $2.50 each in OEM quantities. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
