Munich, Germany: The second generation of Infineon’s ISOFACE galvanic isolated eight-channel high-side switch for 24-V industrial control applications features extensive diagnostics to provide visibility into equipment status and help prevent downtime. It also provides 2.5-kV isolation (compliant with IEC 61131-2 requirements).

The ISO2H823V isolates the low-voltage, control-side components of an industrial controller from the output channels directed to the shop floor. Compared to typical optocoupler-based solutions, the ISO2H823V offers higher operating temperature range and superior robustness, enabling a much smaller printed-circuit board (PCB) design, according to Infineon.

Digital power and control functions drive eight output channels at 600 mA each. On-chip diagnostics include channel-level detection of open load, short-circuit conditions, and over-temperature operation. At IC level, the device monitors supply voltage, output status, over-temperature conditions, and transmission errors. The depth and range of system information provided enables preventive maintenance and the ability to avoid the abrupt shutdown of a system in challenging conditions.

The output side of the high-side switching IC is specified for 24-V dc operation (across a range of 11 to 35 V). It includes 52-V clamping diodes for circuit protection. Each of the eight output channels has a typical 150-mΩ on resistance and is short-circuit protected (active current limited to 1.0 A). The control side operates at 3.3 V. Device status display is supported with integrated drivers for an LED matrix on the input and output side.
