Hall-Switch Sensitivity Nears Proximity-Detection Magnetic-Field Strength

Four omnipolar Hall-effect switches developed by Diodes Inc. offer sensitivities that closely match the magnetic-field strengths used in proximity- and position-detection functions. They’re optimized for low-power operation, with a typical consumption of just 24 µW with a 3-V supply. The high-sensitivity AH1806 and AH1808 are designed using two Hall-effect plates. Operating thresholds are set at ±30 and ±40 g, enabling users to closely control the detection point. Supply range is specified at 2.5 to 3.6 V, suiting the devices for 2.8- and 3.3-V power rails. Applications include cell phones, PDAs, laptops, and industrial products. The medium-sensitivity AH1807 and AH1809 offer typical operating points of ±80 and ±130 g, respectively. Applications for these devices feature much stronger field strengths (e.g., smart meters, home appliances, and security equipment). Supply range is 2.5 to 5.5 V, and operating temperature ranges from -40 to +125°C. An innovative chopper-stabilized architecture assures high reliability over the full operating range.
