EOS/ESD Symposium Product PreviewEOS/ESD Symposium Product Preview

The latest static-control prevention, evaluation, and testing products from top manufacturers and distributors around the world will be exhibited Sept. 22-24 at the EOS/ESD Symposium at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. This marks the 25th anniversary for the symposium, sponsored by the ESD Association.

The exhibit will be open Monday evening from 7 to 10 p.m., Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The weeklong schedule includes tutorials, workshops, certification programs, technical papers, and an evening to celebrate 25 years of successful symposiums. New to this year’s schedule are several tutorials focusing on the association’s new ESD control program manager certification.

Highlights of the program include a stand-alone seminar on designing and implementing an ESD control program based on ANSI/ESD S20.20 and a range of classes tailored to prepare participants for the NARTE certification exams given on Friday after the symposium. Rounding out the schedule are tutorials and eight paper sessions running in two parallel tracks on topics such as RF ESD, testing and characterization, MR heads, modeling, discharge phenomena, and on-chip protection. Eight interactive workshops will range from ESD audits and clean rooms to trends in device and circuit simulation for ESD production development.

Registration and Fees

The fee to attend the symposium is $695. Each full day of tutorials is $550; a half-day registration for Thursday morning or afternoon costs $275. The total package is $2,110. Registration is $1,495 and limited to 30 registrants for the ANSI/ESD S20.20-based seminar on designing and implementing an ESD control program.

Component Packaging

Pillow Pak is a component-handling product line that packages one or more ESD-sensitive devices without custom tooling. Two conductive foam pads encapsulate the items they protect. A conductive, molded plastic shielding box with an ESD-safe label attached provides physical protection for storage, handling, and shipping. The self-forming nature of the foam protects a variety of products and parts. Many box sizes are available such as 2″ × 2″ × ¼” and 7″ × 3½” × ½”. Conductive Containers, www.rsleads.com/309ee-206

Dual-Operator Continuous Monitor

The Dual-Operator Continuous Monitor with satellite modules connects users up to 7 ft away from the monitor control unit. Green and red pass and no-pass LEDs indicate whether or not the operator has a good ground connection, and an ongoing audio alarm reinforces the no-pass indicator. Parking studs permit the operator to unsnap the coil cord without setting off the alarm. The monitor, available in 120-V and 220-V versions, is designed to work with conductive layer mats such as Statfree® Type T2, CE, and Z2 or Micastat. Desco, www.rsleads.com/309ee-207

Electrostatic Voltmeter

The Model 279L Electrostatic Voltmeter has a range of ±300 V, accuracy of 0.1% or 10 mV, and resolution of 100 mV. As a result, it provides less risk of arcing at close probe-to-surface spacing for use in research of disk media, contact potentials, IC manufacturing/handling, bioelectric fields, or other locations where low-voltage, noncontacting, electrostatic measurements are required. The meter accommodates the company’s series of 1034 probes with dimensions of 0.35″ × 0.35″ × 2.85”. Monroe Electronics, www.rsleads.com/309ee-209

Body and Ground Monitor

The Series 400 Digital Workstation and Process Equipment Monitor is a microprocessor-based instrument with digital I/O capability with precise real-time, ESC/ESD, and process environment monitoring. The unit, a replacement for the Series 350, features the company’s new single-wire body current-detection technology that requires no voltage on the operator. It performs body voltage or current detection, ground monitoring, and particle counter data collection and reporting. The modular design accommodates optional plug-in features such as digital I/O communications for a direct interface to the company’s Process Environment Monitoring System (PEMS) using RS-485 and ModBus protocols. Ionizing Gun

The P-2021-2432 Clean Room Ionizing Gun, featuring a hook built into the handle for storage, operates with compressed air or nitrogen service. It uses the company’s ionizing technology to eliminate the potential for particulate contamination. It also does not require a high-voltage power supply, adjustments, or calibration and always is on to help reduce the potential for operator errors. Maintenance includes a periodic replacement of the air filter and annual replacement of the ionizing cartridge. NRD, www.rsleads.com/309ee-211

Ion Emitter Bar

The small, self-monitoring ScorpION™ Ion Emitter Bar features an aerodynamic shape to minimize disturbance of unidirectional airflow and 24-VDC supply requirements for use inside tools, flow benches, and clean-room mini environments. The bar incorporates the company’s patented digital ionization control technology with RS-485 drop-link communications. It also provides steady-state and pulse DC operating-mode capability and setup and adjustment via IR remote. Up to 10 units can be interconnected using RJ-45 modular connectors and wiring. Operating parameters are stored internally and microprocessor controlled. SIMCO, www.rsleads.com/309ee-213

Charged-Plate Monitor

The Model 157 Charged-Plate Monitor features the company’s patented precision charge measurement capability, a digital display, and a bar-code reading function for ionizer identification. The lightweight monitor stores more than 1,500 manual tests or up to 1,000 automated test sequences, and the saved test results are automatically date/time stamped. A USB port uploads custom automated test sequences and downloads test results to a computer. Application software helps create custom test sequences, generate test reports, and operate the unit. Ground Monitor

The Ground Master® continuously monitors the ground connection and continuity in tools and equipment. It complies with the ANSI/ESDA S20.20 Standard and monitors up to eight individual ground connections simultaneously, 16 with an optional extension. Alarm trigger levels are user-configurable in the field. The unit also monitors ground lines for excessive levels of EMI. Comprehensive output is provided to a facility monitoring system. Transmission Line Pulser

The compact, modular VF-TLP Eclipse Transmission Line Pulser is a high-bandwidth tester that provides HBM, fast HBM, and CDM simulation during the engineering design phase of semiconductor production. It features the true time-domain (TDR) measurement method. The system incorporates a user interface for automating test tasks. All system parameters, measurements, and results are displayed graphically, and results can be exported for inclusion in test reports. Thermo KeyTek, www.rsleads.com/309ee-214

Desktop Workstation

The PED-655 Desktop ESD Workstation includes a PRM-652 12″ × 16″ Auditors Rubber Mat, a PGC-016B 15-ft Black Ground Cord, a GAP-005 STAT-GUARD Ground Adapter Plug, and a PWS-620 Wrist Strap. The mat, featuring two 10-mm ground snaps, is manufactured from Norastat dual-layer synthetic rubber surface covering with volume functional static-dissipative properties. The PGC-016B cord has a standard banana plug for ground connection. The wrist strap incorporates an adjustable metal wristband and a cord of single-bundle, laced tensile conductors and a 1-MW resistor molded into the snap connection. Antifungal Flooring

ESD Control Vinyl Flooring Systems designed for uses throughout entire work areas now contain Microban, a built-in antimicrobial agent to help prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi. This active ingredient protects the applied adhesive from the mold, mildew, and bacteria that cause odors and product degradation, making the flooring suitable for use in sanitary-intensive environments such as healthcare settings. The systems resist wear and permanent indentation from heavy equipment and perform under rolling load conditions up to 2,000 psi. FLEXCO®, www.rsleads.com/309ee-208
