Agilent Technologies is the market share leader for general-purpose test equipment in China, followed by Tektronix, Rohde & Schwarz, Fluke, and Anritsu, according to Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Wei Wei, speaking during a December 8 telebriefing, in which I participated. Other players in the market include LeCroy, National Instruments, Yokogawa Electric, RIGOL Technologies, Aeroflex, Keithley Instruments, ADLink Technology, Teradyne, Giga-tronics, and VTI Instruments. But Wei said he expects the big firms to remain dominant.
As for market share by product type, oscilloscopes lead with 30.5%, followed by signal analyzers, signal generators, and multimeters, which combined made up 72.1% of the market. Other instrument types cited by Wei include network analyzers, logic analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators, power meters, and counters. He noted that modular instruments accounted for about 10% of the market in China in 2010, and he expects the modular-instrument segment to increase to about 20% in 2017.
As for applications areas, Wei cited communications and aerospace/defense as offering high potential, which semiconductors, consumer electronics, industrial and automotive, and education and medical offering medium potential. Key areas to watch, he said, include TD-LTE, green engineering, and new-energy automotive applications.
I concluded the briefing with an overview of market-share leaders’ engagement in China and a look at modular instruments’ challenges and benefits.
