RF limiting amplifiers

New RF limiting amplifiers can find use in electronic-warfare, microwave-receiver, and broadband-communications systems to protect components from high input power levels while providing constant output over a wide input dynamic range. Four models cover broad frequency bands ranging from 1 GHz to 18 GHz. The models utilize advanced GaAs PHEMT semiconductors. Each model produces high gain levels ranging from 40 dB to 80 dB typical and can handle a wide dynamic range of input power levels from -61 dBm to +20 dBm while generating a limited output power level between +15 dBm to +19 dBm. Saturated output power deviation is ±0.5 dB typical over the specific frequency range.

The new broadband limiting amplifiers are available in compact SMA connectorized packages that are hermetically sealed and designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions with operating temperatures ranging from -30°C to +70°C. Fairview Microwave

Ethernet/IP tester

The enhanced next-generation Ethernet/IP tester—the PacketExpert 10G—supports comprehensive testing of both 10G and 1G Ethernet/IP networks. PacketExpert 10G has two 10-Gb/s optical ports and two 10/100/1000-Mb/s electrical/optical ports and is capable of bit error rate testing (BERT), smart loopback, and RFC 2544 testing. In addition, PacketExpert 10G supports record and playback and simulation of IP links and impairments (with IPLinkSim).

The tester offers PacketBroker and Y.1564 (via ExpertSAM) test functionalities. The tests are supported on each port independently for wire-speed Ethernet/VLAN/MPLS/IP/UDP testing. BERT is implemented for all layers. RFC 2544/Y.1564 is applicable for layers 2, 2.5, and 3, and loopback is applicable for layers 2, 3, and 4. The PacketBroker application allows PacketExpert to capture packets at up to 10 Gb/s or 1 Gb/s nonintrusively over Ethernet (electrical) and optical ports at nanosecond precision. GL Communications

AC power supplies

New CE-marked BLC Series AC power sources provide either single- or three-phase output from 3,000 VA to 9,000 VA. They deliver low cost per VA, rugged construction, clean sine-wave output, high efficiency, and low harmonic distortion. A multipulse input transformer ensures low-input harmonic distortion and high power factor. Protection circuitry provides overtemperature and short-circuit protection plus voltage fold-back that maintains undistorted waveforms during overloads.

Voltage and frequency adjustment, line-drop compensation, phase-angle adjustment, and external sync and output on/off with remote power connection are standard. Optional features include fixed voltage and frequency, output transformers, an analog remote-control interface, and an extended frequency range up to 1,000 Hz. Suitable for those involved with motor testing, the BLC Series power sources offer a motor test option that can soft-start motors, pumps, and compressors. Behlman Electronics

Generator set

The new 500-kW natural-gas generator set is the largest unit in the company’s spark-ignited industrial generator line. Powering the new unit is a 25.8-liter, 12-cylinder engine that is turbocharged and after-cooled, producing a standby power rating of 500 kW and prime power rating of 450 kW.

Suitable for large standby power applications such as mission-critical data centers, the unit can be installed as a single-engine generator set or as part of the vendor’s modular power systems if generator paralleling is required for increased reliability, redundancy, flexibility, and scalability for future growth. The gen-set is equipped with PowerManager digital controls, which provide access to constant monitoring capabilities, built-in protective alarms, and isochronous speed control for increased accuracy. GenLink remote monitoring software is an optional feature. Generac

DC/DC converters

The 20-A iBH Series POL (point of load) nonisolated surface-mount DC/DC converters occupy just 0.36 square inches of board space, measuring 0.8 x 0.45 x 0.39 inches with a weight of 6 g. Accepting an input range of 3.5 VDC to 14 VDC, the series can operate from either a 5-VDC or 12-VDC bus.

The iCH series can provide output voltages from 0.7 V to 5.5 V with efficiencies of up to 96%. Capable of delivering up to 80 W, the converters operate in high-ambient-temperature, low-airflow environments with minimal power derating. The series is designed to meet a range of applications including servers, routers, and other information and communication technology equipment; semiconductor manufacturing equipment; measuring equipment; and general industrial equipment.

As with all TDK-Lambda’s DOSA-compatible-footprint POLs, the iBH does not need externally mounted loop-tuning components and has excellent transient response to load changes. TDK-Lambda

JTAG development system

Version 3.4 of the vendor’s development system introduces improvements in the visibility into complex systems during all phases of electronic product development and manufacture. As it becomes increasingly difficult to physically access the fine-pitch arrays of modern integrated devices, engineers must rely on alternative solutions to debugging and testing complex circuits. Through its capability to interrogate and control JTAG-enabled devices, boundary scan is becoming the way to not only test, but also develop and debug modern electronic products.

As part of its in-circuit debugging and visualization tool, XJAnalyser, the vendor has developed Waveform Viewer, which offers engineers a live, correlated view showing the digital signal levels and transitions of acquired JTAG chain data. As well as displaying live data, Waveform Viewer also supports triggering, allowing circuit behavior to be captured under specified conditions, such as when particular events occur. This can greatly improve an engineering team’s ability to capture key information and track down intermittent faults. XJTAG

Handheld DMMs

The U1280 Series and U1240C Series handheld DMMs are rugged and come with extended battery life to allow users to test and log data over a longer period of time. With 60,000-count display resolution and 0.025% accuracy, the U1280 Series includes the vendor’s highest performance handheld DMMs. These 4.5-digit handheld DMMs offer the precision, accuracy, and repeatability engineers need to meet the requirements for electronics manufacturing, installation, and maintenance work in the electronics test industry.

The U1240C Series four-digit handheld DMMs come with 10,000-count display resolution and 0.09% accuracy and provide a broad range of measurement functions for installation and maintenance work in industrial facilities. The U1240C Series ships with unique features such as ZLOW and harmonic ratio. ZLOW is a low-impedance mode to eliminate stray voltages. The harmonic ratio function gives an indication of the presence of harmonics. Keysight Technologies
Battery impedance tester

Able to gage the health of lead-acid cells up to 2,000 Ah, the BITE3 measures cell impedance, cell voltage, intercell connection resistance, and both float and ripple current. An internal ohmic test also can be performed using this device. It can measure cells and string parameters quickly and efficiently without taking the system off-line. In as few as four keystrokes, the unit is ready to take battery measurements.

The device can be used during typical installations performed at electrical power generation plants, substations, telecommunications facilities, UPS systems, railroads, and aircraft power supplies as well as in marine and military applications. Suitable for testing parallel strings, it measures escape current so there is no need to sectionalize the strings to avoid false negative readings. Megger
