Cloud Spectator releases annual top 10 cloud IaaS providers benchmark report

March 20, 2018

Boston, MA (PRNewswire). Cloud Spectator, a benchmarking and cloud consulting firm, today released its 2018 Top 10 Cloud IaaS Price-Performance Benchmark Report. The Cloud service providers included in the study are 1&1, AWS, CenturyLink, Digital Ocean, Dimension Data, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure, OVH, RackSpace, and SoftLayer.

This report analyzes 1.5 million data points collected over a 24-hour period in January 2018 and ranks the leading cloud service providers based on the CloudSpecs Value Score, which is based on performance data and published prices. This study provides performance and stability results for CPU, block storage, and memory for several virtual machine sizes.

Ken Balazs, CEO of Cloud Spectator, emphasized that “IaaS performance continues to be a major consideration of enterprises when implementing a hybrid cloud— and benchmarking private and public infrastructure is a critical step in an organization’s overall evaluation process.”

The ranking revealed

  • a difference in VM performance (CPU and memory) of 1.5x,
  • a price variability of 5x, and
  • a value variability of 4.9x across the ten IaaS providers in the report.

It is apparent that a disparity in value of the public cloud continues to persist in the market. However, as enterprise buyers demand better cost efficiency of the public cloud, performance of the cloud continues to improve while price continues to drop.

Detailed analysis of current performance and pricing is available in the “Cloud Spectator 2018 Top 10 Public Cloud IaaS Providers Benchmark Report.”
