A family of multimode optical transceivers for Fast Ethernet and OC-3 data rates incorporates a transmit disable function. The LED-based 2x5 small-form-factor (SFF) units are MSA-compliant and target next-generation wide-area and metropolitan-area networking equipment applications. The addition of the transmit disable function enables the units to function as drop-in replacements for existing 2x5 SFF single-mode transceiver footprints, allowing instant upgrade for multimode applications. The units are available for operation over the standard commercial (0°C to 70°C) or industrial (−40°C to 85°C) temperature ranges. They exhibit low levels of jitter from −40°C to 85°C. Pricing for the multimode Fast Ethernet and OC-3 SFF transceivers ranges from $50 to $80 in production quantities, depending on application requirements. Delivery is typically from stock to eight weeks.
