STMicroelectronics has promoted Ugo Carena to corporate vice president and named him to head the firm’s newly formed Automotive Products Group (APG). The APG will consolidate all major complex products related to automotive applications.

Automotive products had been the responsibility of Aldo Romano, who is retiring as corporate vice president for ST’s Telecommunications, Peripherals and Automotive Groups (TPA).

The formation of the auto unit is part of a larger restructuring intended to prepare the firm for the departure next year of President and CEO Pasquale Pistorio. Carlo Bozotti will succeed Pistorio and Alain Dutheil has been named to the new position of chief operating officer.

The reorganization also recognizes ST’s “continued emphasis on developing application-specific products and platforms for an increasingly convergent marketplace.”

Leaving the company, in addition to Pistorio and Romano, are Salvatore Castorina, corporate vice president of the Discretes & Standard Circuits Group (DSG), and Joel Monnier, corporate vice president of R&D. Mr. Pistorio praised Romano, Castorina and Monnier for their “vital contributions to the exceptional transformation of ST from a struggling European semiconductor company into a dynamic world leader.”
