BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems says its InterActive Torque Management (ITM) system is in production for Hyundai’s Tucson crossover SUV.

Cindy Niekamp, president and general manager of the BorgWarner unit, says the patented ITM system uses electronic sensors and MCU controls to help convert the vehicle’s front-wheel drive-based platform to all-wheel drive. The electronics minimize front-wheel slip by automatically transferring power to the rear wheels, enhancing vehicle handling and traction by optimizing the grip at all four wheels. At highway speeds, the system automatically reduces power transfer to the rear wheels to enhance fuel economy.
