Toyota hedges satellite radio bets

Toyota says it will offer XM and Sirius satellite radio in Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles. Next year, the automaker plans to expand the number of models for which XM is a dealer-installable option, and in 2006 it will begin offering XM radios as a factory-installed option in Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

"Information services and compelling entertainment options like XM Satellite Radio are rapidly becoming 'must-have' features for today's automotive buyer," says David Danzer, Group VP, Product Planning, Toyota Motor Sales.

Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles will use the SIRIUS Interior Glass-Mounted Antenna (SIGMA), which Sirius claims is the most integrated antenna installation solution available to date.
