Steering assist, developed jointly with Daimler Chrysler, evaluates electronic stability control (ESC) sensor data, identifying critical situations and determining a correct steering lock. If actual steering conflicts with calculated values, the power steering will introduce a corrective steering moment that allows the driver to adjust the steering angle to the correct value. The function also is beneficial in emergency braking and helps the driver maintain control when one side of the car is on a slippery surface and the other is on a dry surface.
