A highly integrated, multi-channel Codec, the WM8777 provides all of the major audio functions for the next generation of 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 audio/visual systems including DVD receivers, flat-panel TVs and other multimedia home and automotive equipment. Integrated on-chip are an 8-channel DAC, 2-channel ADC, 4-input digital interface transceiver (S/PDIF), bass management, stereo mix down, tone and volume control for both 5.1 analog inputs and digital playback sources. A secondary audio interface is provided, allowing the S/PDIF to run independently of the codec audio interface, which allows for simplified designs. Each of the eight DAC channels has a master volume control with a gain range of +20 dB to –100 dB in 1-dB steps. Full 7.1 channel support or 5.1 operation with simultaneous auxiliary remote-room audio is supported. Sampling rates range from 8 kHz to 192 kHz, and the integrated stereo headphone amplifier includes source selection. The codec is supplied in a 100-pin TQFP package. Price is $7.34 each/10,000.
