Growth in automotive and other end-user applications is helping to revive the world power transistors market after a brief slump in 2001, according to a new analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Strategic Analysis of the World Power Transistors Market. Revenues totaled $6.8 billion in 2004 and are projected to reach $8.8 billion in 2008.

Research analysts Aditya Prasad and C. Vasanthalakshmi said that power transistors' increased electronic content improves utility and demand in applications such as antilock braking systems (ABS), ignition coil driver circuits and power steering.

Higher cell densities along with lower prices, enhanced features and miniaturization have aided MOSFETs and IGBTs in increasing their market share to the detriment of bipolar junction transistors in the total power transistors market.
