Audi taps Analog Devices for A5 Coupé entertainment system

Sept. 13, 2007
Audi (www.audi.com) has selected Analog Devices (www.analog.com) Blackfin and SHARC processors for use in in-cabin entertainment systems for the A5 Coupé, which includes the Audi Symphony and Concert advanced digital radios, a Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) option, a 6-CD changer, and a MultiMedia Device Interface for connecting to personal media players.

Audi has selected Analog Devices Blackfin and SHARC processors for use in in-cabin entertainment systems for the A5 Coupé, which includes the Audi Symphony and Concert advanced digital radios, a digital audio broadcast (DAB) option, a 6-CD changer, and a multimedia device interface for connecting to personal media players. Analog Devices processors provide all audio decoding and processing functions, communications protocol processing and control processing for the Audi’s driver interface.

Peter Kohlschmidt, director wireless, acoustics, connectivity, Audi AG, said Blackfin ADSP-BF539 and ADSP-BF532 processors power the DAB radio and MP3-compatible 6-way CD changer (the Audi symphony/concert radio). Another Blackfin ADSP-BF532 processor drives the A5’s Audi music interface, which integrates portable media players, such as the Apple iPod, for dashboard display and steering-wheel control. An optional Bang & Olufsen (www.bang-olufsen.com) surround sound amplifier is based on an ADI SHARC ADSP-21362 processor.

Other Analog Devices products in the vehicle include the ADM6319, a supervisory circuit that monitors power supply voltage levels and code execution integrity in microprocessor-based systems; the AD7478, an 8-bit, low-power, successive approximation (SAR) analog-to-digital converter; the AD9280, a single-supply, 8-bit, 32 megasample per-second A/D converter, and the ADuC7032 precision battery monitor sensor for 12 V automotive applications.
