Data I/O Corporation has demonstrated an Automotive Performance Programming System for OEMs and tier one and two suppliers of automotive electronics systems. The Performance Programming System, based on Data I/O’s PS588 or PS288 series platforms, is intended to help automotive production lines meet programmed electronic systems’ requirements for quality, traceability and cost control.

Performance Programming System modules include the PS FlashCORE remote monitoring application, and a PS extended job log for statistical process control (SPC) tracking. The remote monitoring system provides managers in remote locations with a real-time link to programming activities on the factory floor. The job log provides detailed information regarding every motion of a device during the programming process. The information is provided in a delimited-text file that can be imported into a traceability database or proprietary SPC tool for analysis and quality management.

A FlashCORE Version Control module creates an archived job file containing references to all software components used in the approved first article release, ensuring that future production runs conform to the original approved programming specifications. The PS588 platform can be configured with an ICOS CompactLIM lead inspection system, combining programming and 3-D inspection into a single process. A co-planarity check ensures all programmed devices fall within co-planarity, lead pitch, and slant tolerances.

Data I/O automotive segment manager Megan Miller said the system gives production managers strict configuration control over data file and programming task management. “Our key customers in the automotive industry tell us that change management and traceability are critical challenges, and the Automotive Programming System was designed specifically to address those needs," Miller said.
