Infineon outperforms auto electronics market

Citing a study by Strategy Analytics Infineon Technologies claimed to have significantly outperformed the global market in automotive semiconductor products in 2006. Infineon grew by 9.8% in 2006 with automotive chip sales of approximately $1.7 billion while the global market increased by 6.8% to $17.54 billion from $16.4 billion in 2005. Infineon said it expanded its global automotive semiconductor market share to 9.5% and estimated that, on average, every new vehicle contains approximately two dozen Infineon components.

Infineon, ranked second in the market behind Freescale, claims a 15% market share in Europe, an 8.4% share in the U.S., and a 3% share in Japan. It ranks first, second and sixth respectively in those regions.
