Toshiba SuperFlash MCU integrates USB host controller

Targeting automotive as well as consumer digital-audio applications, Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. has introduced the TMP92FD28FG/DFG, a 32-bit complex instruction set computer (CISC) MCU based on SuperFlash technology. The chip is designed for audio control and integrates a USB host controller.

"Automotive and consumer entertainment systems increasingly incorporate USB connectivity to fetch music in MP3 and other compressed-audio formats,” said Roland Gehrmann, business development manager in TAEC’s ASSP business unit. He described the device as a key component of a complete media-player system solution that also includes Toshiba single-chip CD-MP3 processors, motor drivers and audio power amplifiers.

Based on Toshiba’s TLCS-900/H1 processor core and operating with voltages between 3 V and 3.6 V, the TMP92FD28FG/DFG includes 512 Kbytes of flash memory and 32 Kbytes of RAM. Its minimum instruction execution time is 50 ns at 20 MHz. The USB host controller supports USB2.0 with full-speed operation of 12 Mb/s. The chip also provides a high-speed serial interface as well as interfaces that can communicate with memory-storage devices such as SD cards or memory sticks and support functions required in digital-audio products.
