HCL Technologies Ltd. has introduced a camera system called rvAid that uses four cameras to provide a panoramic (190 degree) view behind a vehicle for blind-spot detection, park assist and other applications.
Two cameras are embedded in the vehicle’s rear bumper and two are embedded in side view mirrors, according to Ramesh Pillai, head of the firm’s automotive practice. The rvAid is an addition to HCL’s advanced passenger experience (APEXS) suite of automotive solutions that encompass infotainment, telematics, safety and performance. The solutions are intended to reduce product development costs and time to market.
"With more than 85% of the modern vehicle's functionality controlled by electronics and associated software, motor vehicle manufacturers and automotive electronic equipment suppliers are grappling to find ways to cut down time to market and development costs," Pullai said.
