ITIS Holdings plc has launched a new real-time traffic information service in the United Kingdom based on the digital audio broadcasting (DAB) standard. The firm said cars and personal navigation devices fitted with DAB TPEG (Transport Protocol Experts Group) receivers can receive Next Generation Traffic Services in the London area. ITIS plans to make the service available elsewhere.

ITIS Holdings chief executive Stuart Marks said TPEG over DAB “represents the future of traffic information services. By utilizing the higher bandwidth that DAB delivers over TMC (Traffic Message Channel), we can ensure drivers get to their destinations as quickly as possibly whilst reducing their fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Furthermore, as one of the driving forces in the Traveller Information Services Association, our service enjoys the full support of the Automotive and Satellite Navigation Industries."
