KEMET Corporation has introduced an FE-CAP series of multilayer ceramic capacitors for automotive and other applications. The devices are based on a floating internal electrode design in which electrodes are configured to form multiple capacitors in series within a single package. The design is said to improve voltage and ESD performance compared with standard designs as well as to mitigate the risk of low IR or short-circuit failures that can occur due to board flex.

The FE-CAP devices are available in case sizes ranging from EIA 0402 to EIA 1812 with rated voltages ranging from 6.3 Vdc to 250 Vdc. Combined with the stability of an X7R dielectric, the FE-CAP offers low- to mid-range capacitance values and an operating temperature range of -55 °C to 125 °C with zero bias capacitance shift limited to ±15% over that range.

Capacitance tolerances offered include J(±5%), K(±10%) and M(±20%). The devices meet AEC-Q200-rev. C requirements and come with 100% pure matte, tin-plated terminations for superior solderability.
