GENIVI Alliance seeks open platform for in-vehicle infotainment

Eight automakers and suppliers are collaborating in the GENIVI Alliance (www.genivi.org) to drive the development of an open source in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) reference platform the firms hope will reduce time-to-market and total cost of ownership.

Eight automakers and suppliers are collaborating in the GENIVI Alliance to drive the development of an open source in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) reference platform the firms hope will reduce time-to-market and total cost of ownership.

Founding members of the alliance include BMW Group, Delphi, General Motors, Intel, Magneti Marelli, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Visteon Corp., and Wind River.

The alliance’s first deliverable, based on Intel’s Atom processor and Wind River’s Linux operating system, is expected this summer.
