Gentex Corporation said it’s shipping a three-mirror, automatic-dimming, glare-eliminating rearview mirror system that will be available as a standard feature on the 2006 Infiniti QX56 SUV. All three of the vehicle's rearview mirrors darken automatically in response to glare from rearward-approaching vehicles, and the brighter the glare, the darker the mirrors become to protect the driver's vision and make nighttime driving safer.

The interior auto-dimming mirror includes a compass, a temperature display, and Johnson Controls' HomeLink wireless control system for operating garage doors, estate gates, security systems, home lighting, and other radio-frequency-controlled devices. Driver- and passenger-side exterior auto-dimming mirrors with through-the-glass auxiliary turn signals are also part of the system. The turn signals' arrow-shaped array of LEDs are aimed at the vehicle's blind spots and serve to warn other drivers of impending turns and lane changes.
