IMS Research has published “The Worldwide Market for Automotive Sensors,” a report that predicts rapid growth in unit sales of automotive laser, radar and image sensors primarily in driver assistance systems. Most of those systems currently use laser or radar sensors. Systems in Japan tend to be laser-based while those in Europe are mostly radar-based. Image-based systems are also available, including a lane-departure warning system that Valeo supplies to Infiniti. IMS predicts that in 2014 the market for automotive image sensors will be almost 10times larger than the market in 2005.
