DURA Automotive Systems and Olhotronic GmbH have formed Duratronics GmbH, a joint venture firm that will develop, manufacture and sell electronic modules used in automotive mechatronic systems.

Duratronics’ products are expected to include shifter indication systems, electronic seating controls, anti-pinch window electronics, and by-wire systems.

"The creation of Duratronics will more than double our capacity to develop and manufacture leading-edge control systems, increasing DURA's participation in the market growth of automotive electronics," said DURA CEO Larry Denton. He estimated that electronics will increase from 25% of a vehicle’s cost in 2004 to 35-40% by 2010.

"Combining Olhotronic's success in electronics product development and manufacturing with DURA's control systems expertise will enable us to leverage our combined intellectual property, fuel our organic growth and provide our customers with outstanding product solutions," Denton said.

Duratronics will be headquartered in Lohne, Germany.
