GPS semiconductor developer SiRF Technology and CSR, a market leader in wireless technology, have agreed that SiRF will merge with CSR. The merger, expected to be complete by the end of Q2, gives SiRF shareholders 0.741 share in CSR for each SiRF share. SiRF shareholders will own 27% of CSR, and two SiRF executives, Diosdado Banatao and Kanwar Chadha, will join the CSR board. Banatao is acting CEO at SiRF and Chadha is a founder of the company. The firms said the merger strengthens CSR's position in both Bluetooth and GPS. SiRF's GPS and assisted GPS (A-GPS) patent portfolio complements CSR's enhanced GPS (eGPS) patents.
