    High-Density 600-W Ruggedized Chargers Target EV Apps

    Green Watt Power recently announced the EVC600 series of fully potted, ruggedized chargers for electric-vehicle (EV) applications. The EVC600 series is specifically designed to charge lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery systems in motorcycles, scooters, carts, forklifts, and other mobile applications, says the company.

    The series has six different models for charging various batteries starting from output voltages of 24 to 133 V. The standard overall dimensions are 8.2 x 4.3 x 3.0 inches (209 x 110 x 75 mm) and include a handle for easy portability. The units are designed for high power density and thermal efficiency, claims Green Watt Power. They include a fan and weigh 2.7 kg.

    CAN bus communication is a standard feature for unit status and control. The chargers have a universal input range of 90 to 264 V ac and are able to handle a wide range of worldwide wall power input voltages and frequencies. The input frequency is 47 to 63 Hz.

    According to the company, depending on the input voltage, an efficiency of up to 94% is achieved thanks to the charger's high power density. The power factor correction is 0.99 at 110 V acin and 0.97 at 220 V acin. The turn-on delay at full load is 3 s. Included is short-circuit protection with auto recovery, as well as overvoltage and overtemperature protection.

    The operating temperature range of the EVC600 is -20 to +50ºC. In storage, the range is -25 to +85ºC. The unit is rated for IP65 for the enclosure. The series is designed to meet UL1564 and CE and EN55032 Class B. The company can modify the unit as needed to meet each application's unique requirements.
