Targeted at mobile phone, DECT phone, PDA, and other portable applications, the FAN7021 is a CMOS power amplifier that produces up to 1W of low-distortion continuous output power (1.5W peak) with supply voltages from 2.0V to 5.5V. The device utilizes an integrated adaptive bias current control circuit to minimize crossover distortion even while consuming 54% lower quiescent supply current than competitive devices, the company says. Additionally, the FAN7021Õs low bias-supply current combined with shutdown current consumption of 0.1 µA, saves energy and extends battery life. With typical THD of 0.2% and power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 65 dB, the FAN7021 is designed to deliver high-quality output performance in portable audio applications. The device also features a built-in popping noise reduction circuit to reduce unexpected speaker noise when the systemÕs power is turned on or off. Overall system footprint is reduced by not requiring an output coupling capacitor, a bootstrap capacitor, nor a snubber network. Other features include thermal shutdown protection, unity gain stability, and external gain configuration capability. The FAN7021 is offered in an 8-SOP package and comes in tube or tape-and-reel packing. Price is $0.55 each/1,000. FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR INTERNATIONAL, South Portland, MA. (888) 522-5372.
