A low profile of just 0.16" makes the new SPI 0802 Series of surface-mount power inductors well-suited for space limited applications, such as notebook computers. The series also offers direct current resistance of as little as 0.010 ohms, saturated current handling capability up to 3,500 mA, and rms current rating up to 3,600 mA. Inductance levels of the SPI 0802 Series range from 1.0 to 1,000 mH with corresponding dc resistance maximums ranging from 0.010 ohms to 3.65 ohms. Built around a ferrite core, SPI 0802 power inductors' terminals are constructed of flat, tinned copper wire. The devices offer high heat resistance and perform well after either flow or reflow soldering, the company says. The inductors are priced at $0.35 each/100,000 and are available in bulk lots of 200 pieces per bag or in 330-mm tape-and-reel packaging of 700 pieces.
