Integrating a high voltage power MOSFET, PWM control, fault protection, and other control circuitry onto a single CMOS chip, the TOP250 switcher ICs can deliver 290W of power, qualifying the device for use in systems such as desktop PCs, small servers, digital TVs, and audio amplifiers. Other built-in features include soft-start for minimum overshoot and lower component stress at start-up, frequency jittering for low EMI, under-voltage protection and over-voltage shutdown, programmable current limit, and an energy-saving feature. TOP250 devices are members of the TOPSwitch-GX family of monolithic power conversion ICs, are available in through-hole and SMT packages, and in a TO-220 (TOP250Y) or TO-262 (TOP250F) package cost $3.29 each/1,000.
