Protection And Signal-Termination IC Promotes Energy Savings

Feb. 24, 2010
The SCLT3-8BT8 allows designers to increase the number of channels in their equipment designs without adding large numbers of extra components

Self crowned as the first device to combine field signal-termination and protection functions, the SCLT3-8BT8 allows designers to increase the number of channels in their equipment designs without adding large numbers of extra components. The device combines eight data channels into a single serial output, allowing the number of optical transistors and associated components to be reduced significantly. Power consumption is less than 78 mW per input, which saves energy and reduces heat generated by the isolator. Protection features meet IEC61000-4 standards for electrical transients up to ±4 kV, voltage surges to ±1 kV, and ESD to ±15 kV air discharge. Other features include an industry-standard SPI. Budgetary pricing is $3.20 each/1,000+. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
