The AAT3193, the first in a family of 2- and 3-channel, charge-pump-based white LED (WLED) drivers, targets low-cost handsets in mobile consumer electronics. Measuring 2 mm x 2 mm in a 10-lead SC70JW package, the chip drives one to three LEDs with up to 30 mA each. The next member in the family, the AAT3192, will drive two LEDs. Both devices offer part-to-part current accuracy of better than 10% and channel-to-channel current matching better than 3%, and they automatically switch between 1x and 2x mode to maximize efficiency and to minimize the number of external parts. With the AAT3193, each LED is programmable via traditional linear PWM or the company’s proprietary single-wire S2Cwire interface. Via this interface, users can program each WLED up to 30 mA each in either 16, eight, or four steps. The part also integrates thermal protection and automatic soft start. Price is $0.49 each/1,000.
