A new front end/rectifier has been designed for low profile, distributed power architecture applications. The CAR1248 is packaged in a 1U-high footprint measuring 1.65" x 3.44" x 11.2". Touted as best-in-class, the unit has a power density of 19W per cubic inch. It delivers a 48V single output at 25A and is intended for use as a regulated bus along with a 5V standby voltage to power external housekeeping and monitoring circuitry. The unit is narrow enough to fit up to five of them in a power shelf, supplying up to 4,800W N+1 redundant or 6,000W. Added features include hot swap and fault redundancy, active single-wire load sharing, output voltage programming, current readout, remote on/off and front plate LEDs. Protection features on the rectifier include input over and under voltage, output over voltage, over temperature and over current. A I2C serial interface lets the user monitor various operating parameters within the unit. Pricing is $250 each in OEM quantities. CHEROKEE INTERNATIONAL, Tustin, CA. (714) 544-6665.
