Debuting as the industry’s first 4A, single-chip driver for super-capacitor-based LED camera flash applications, the CAT3224 packs all functions necessary to accurately control LED flash charge/discharge including power switches. The device offers three fully independent operational modes?charging, flash, and torch?activated via a parallel logic interface and the operating current of each mode is programmable via three external resistors. Other features include matched output channels (2A each in flash mode and 200 mA each in torch mode), an adjustable charge-current limit up to 1A, dual-cell super-capacitor charging, and individual flash/torch current adjustment. Available in a 16-lead TQFN package measuring 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.8 mm, pricing for the CAT3224 is $0.97 each/10,000. ON SEMICONDUCTOR, Phoenix, AZ. (800) 282-9855.
