Employing a patented Quad-Mode switching architecture, the CAT3604V fractional charge pump drives up to four LEDs, making it a viable alternative to the industry-standard 604 with similar functionality. Its Quad-Mode switching architecture claims responsibility for boosting average efficiency up to 92%. The architecture provides a fourth mode of operation, 1.33x, to deliver the higher average efficiency without the need for an additional capacitor. The 1.33x fractional operating mode also reduces input switching currents, minimizing overall supply noise. Other features include a PWM dimming interface, channel diagnostics including automatic detection for both short and open conditions, and a 16-pad, 4 mm x 4 mm TQFN package. Price is $0.48 each/10,000. CATALYST SEMICONDUCTOR INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 258-5991.
