Depending on the panel design and configuration, the UniGlo Optima fiber-optic backlight panels exhibit brightness levels up to 30 Ft-L and higher. This is reported as being twice the brightness of standard UniGlo panels, with improved light uniformity across the panel, and no inverter required. The panels measure as low as 0.013" and are said to generate no heat or EMI. They rely on either 3 mm or 5 mm LED light sources and specify an operational life span of 100,000 hours or more. Power consumption is typically 3.6V from 20 mA to 30 mA. According to the company, up to 20 in² can be lit with a single LED consuming 20 mA at 3.6 Vdc or less. Pricing starts at $0.25/ in² in production quantities. For more details, contact Thomas Fisher at LUMITEX INC., Strongsville, OH. (800) 969-5483.
