The L8045/S8046 emitter/receiver combo is designed for plastic optical fiber (POF) data links up to 50 Mbps. Touted for high sensitivity, high output and reliability, the L8045/S8046 pair is said to be well suited for high-speed transmission in poor environmental conditions with high noise. The L8045 LED emits red light with a peak wavelength of 650 nm, an optimal reading for POF. Further enhancing the L8045 for POF applications is a mini-lens molded to the package for efficient coupling. Optical output reaches -8 dBm, pulse distortion is +1 ns maximum and jitter is 3 ns maximum. Covering a range of 21.5 dB, the S8046 monolithic photo ICX receives signals from 4 Mbps to 50 Mbps. Pulse width distortion can be as low as -4 ns and jitter is 5 ns maximum. A standby mode automatically switches the S8046 to low power dissipation mode when no light is input and switches back to normal operation mode when light is input from the fiber. Pricing is $3 for the L8045 and $5 for the S8046 in large quantities. HAMAMATSU CORP., Bridgewater, NJ. (908) 231-0960.
