The LX1994 dual-mode boost controller for powering LEDs relies on a dual PFM architecture to deliver a maximum efficiency beyond 92%. This design also accommodates a higher level of integration, which includes over-voltage protection, logic-controlled shutdown, amplitude-independent PWM dimming, and a light-sensor interface. Reportedly, the light-sensor interface eases the addition of an automatic-brightness control and promotes longer battery life when paired with the company's visible-light sensors. Available in a surface-mount, 10-pin 3-mm square MLP or MSOP, prices are $0.63 and $0.61 each/10,000, respectively. MICROSEMI CORP., Irvine, CA. (949) 221-7100.
