2008 INTERNATIONAL CES — AMD revealed the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3000 series, a new family of graphics processors for high-definition gaming and video in notebook PCs. The series is aimed at mobile users at work and play and initial offerings include the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 and 3600. It is optimized for the forthcoming AMD notebook platform code-named "Puma." AMD said the series delivers the latest industry-standard technologies for notebooks with Microsoft DirectX 10.1 and PCI Express 2.0 support, as well as DisplayPort connectivity. The series promises life-like realism through DirectX 10.1, which enables new lighting and rendering techniques. PCI Express 2.0 support enables faster throughput and greater overall system performance, according to AMD. The chips also enable users to play Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies in full-HD 1080p resolution with its ATI Avivo HD Technology. Also at CES, AMD showcased its upcoming Puma notebook platform, in which ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3000 series graphics will join AMD Turion Ultra notebook processors and the forthcoming AMD RS780 chipset to deliver power-efficient mobility. Puma will be introduced in the second quarter of 2008.
