Performing dimming duties in LCDs, the MLX75304 SensorEyeC series light sensor addresses cost-critical applications that include mobile phone and notebook screens as well as automotive instrument panel dimming and headlight control. Promising clear screen readability under all circumstances, the sensor will maximize screen lighting during bright light conditions and its dynamic range, in excess of 100 dB, makes it viable for all light situations. It integrates a photodiode, transimpedance amplifier, and an output stage into a 3 mm x 3 mm SMD package. The MLX75304 is sampling now at a price of $0.50 each in OEM quantities.
