Heralded as the market’s most advanced and smallest dot-matrix LED driver, the AS1130 requires 5-mm² of PCB space. It also reduces external component counts, allows the use of low-cost connectors, requires fewer PCB layers, and enables up to 80% longer battery life. The device drives 132 LEDs, each with an eight-bit dimming control and no external resistor. Additionally, an eight-bit analog current control allows fine tuning of each current source. Other features include 36 frames of memory for small animations or for use as a buffer, an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, and a 2.7V to 5.5V power supply range. Available in a 20-pin CS-WLP and SSOP-28, prices for the AS1130 are $2.99 and $3.99 for the SSOP-28 each/1,000, respectively. AUSTRIAMICROSYSTEMS USA INC., Raleigh, NC. (919) 676-5292.
