Acquisition Expands Chipmaker’s Portable Power Portfolio

Texas Instruments has acquired POWERPRECISE Solutions, a fabless portable power management IC solutions company based in Herndon, Virginia.

Texas Instruments has acquired POWERPRECISE Solutions, a fabless portable power management IC solutions company based in Herndon, Virginia. The acquisition combines POWERPRECISE’s advanced technologies, design expertise and innovative products with TI's analog and power management portfolio.

The acquisition will allow TI to accelerate development of battery and power management ICs for consumer, automotive, medical, computing and industrial applications. These applications include robotics, power tools, electric bicycles, as well as large battery systems, such as those used in hybrid-electric vehicles and uninterruptible power supplies.

“Adding POWERPRECISE’s products and expertise expands our large portfolio of complete battery management ICs that support a range of end applications from portable media players to power drills to automotive designs.” said Dave Heacock, senior vice president of TI’s high-volume analog business.

Founded in 2002, POWERPRECISE currently has offices in Herndon, Va.; Taipei, Taiwan; and San Jose, Calif. The company, which has 28 employees, offers innovative battery and energy management mixed-signal ICs for primary and rechargeable battery packs used in various consumer, industrial and computing applications.
