Sunnyvale, California Maxim Integrated Products now offers the MAX3747/MAX3747A 3.3-V, low-power, multirate limiting amplifiers with a programmable loss-of-signal (LOS) indicator. Pin-compatible to the Micrel SY88993V limiting amplifier, these devices provide higher gain, better bit-error-rate performance, and lower jitter than the SY88993V.

Operating from a single 3.3-V supply, the MAX3747/MAX3747A have better than 4-mV input sensitivity and 120-mV root-mean-square input-referred noise while consuming only 60 mW. Each amplifier has a programmable signal-detect function that can be set to different assert and deassert levels. At the same time, the amplifiers maintain a 2-dB hysteresis. The MAX3747 features low 13-ps deterministic jitter and less than 3.5-ps root-mean-square random jitter. The devices accept input voltages from 4 to 1200 mV. They provide 500-mV peak-to-peak (MAX3747) or 800-mV peak-to-peak (MAX3747A) output swing.

The MAX3747/MAX3747A amplifiers are packaged in a 3-mm, 10-pin microMAX. They operate over the extended temperature range (−40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $4.50 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs. For more information, go to www.maxim-ic.com.

Santa Clara, California Features like a wide frequency range, high isolation, low insertion loss, and excellent linearity are all included in NEC's newest medium-power UPG2179TB single-pole double-throw (SPDT) GaAs MMIC switch. With 2.5-to-5.3-V operation, it is designed for use in transmit and receive, antenna diversity, and band-select switching. It is also viable for cellular and cordless handsets, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, and short-range wireless applications to 3.0 GHz. Housed in an industry-standard SOT-363 package that's a drop-in, pin-for-pin replacement for other switches on the market, it can bring higher levels of performance to existing designs. The UPG2179TB is priced at $0.29 in quantities of 100,000. It is available now from California Eastern Labs. For a datasheet, visit www.cel.com. San Jose, California The CellularRAM specification co-development team, which includes Cypress Semiconductor Corp., Infineon Technologies, and Micron Technology, Inc., welcomed its new member, Renesas Technology Corp. Renesas is the first Asia-headquartered manufacturer that is developing a family of CellularRAM devices for next-generation mobile handsets. The CellularRAM products are high-performance, low-power memory solutions designed to meet the growing memory density and bandwidth demands of future 2.5G and 3G handset designs. Like other specification co-development members, Renesas will design its devices using its own technology. It also will manufacture the products in its own fabrication facilities.

CellularRAM devices are currently available. To learn more about the densities and configurations available, visit www.cellularram.com.

Sunnyvale, California National Semiconductor Corp. recently opened a design center in Seoul, Korea. As National's first design facility in Korea, this center will develop analog-power-management integrated circuits and subsystems for portable applications, flat-panel displays, and LCD TVs. The Korea-based design team will join other National engineers in addressing a major worldwide challenge: managing the increasing power needs of the feature-rich portable applications that are being developed for smaller and smaller form factors. As the worldwide leader in power-management systems, National Semiconductor has introduced a range of products to manage power and extend battery life in portable applications. These products include low dropout regulators, white LED drivers, regulators, and battery chargers. National also recently introduced its Mobile Pixel Link (MPL) technology for handhelds. To find out more, go to www.national.com.Milpitas, California Linear Technology's new LTC2904/LTC2905 and LTC2906/LTC2907 products are space-saving dual-supply monitors. The LTC2904/LTC2905 feature nine combinations of input threshold levels. The LTC2906/LTC2907 provide one input that is adjustable to as low as 0.5 V and another with three possible voltage selections. All of the ICs offer selectable supply tolerance of 5%, 7.5%, and 10%, thereby allowing for possible margining.

The tight ±1.5% voltage-threshold accuracy and glitch immunity ensure reliable reset operation without false triggering. The LTC2904/LTC2905 and LTC2906/LTC2907 are offered in 8-pin ThinSOT and DFN packages. Their small size makes them perfectly suited for handheld devices and portable intelligent instruments as well as any dual-supply voltage system.

Prices for the LTC2904/LTC2905 and LTC2906/LTC2907 begin at $1.35 each in 1000-piece quantities. For more details, go to www.linear.com.

Fresno, California DiTom Microwave is now offering the DMI6018 broadband isolator. This device supports the frequency range of 6.0 to 18.0 GHz. It is very popular for test setups and radar-systems applications. It comes standard with SMA connectors. The DM16018 isolator has a specification of 15-dB typical isolation, 0.9-dB typical insertion loss, and 1.45:1 typical VSWR. Its power handling is 2 W average with a 20-W peak. For more information on the new broadband isolator or the company, point your cursor to www.ditom.com.San Jose, California Xilinx, Inc. is offering a free, fully functional Configurable Physical Coding Sublayer (CPCS) reference design for a multi-mode PCS block. It is implemented in Xilinx Virtex-II Pro field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The CPCS can be dynamically configured to support three types of PCS layers including Fibre Channel (1.0625 and 2.125 Gbps), Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-X), and ESCON/SBCON (200 Mbps). The CPCS reference design is ideal for applications including Ethernet/Fibre Channel switches, multi-service provisioning platforms (MSPPs), SONET/SDH terminals, add-drop multiplexers (ADMs), cross connects, CWDM/DWDM transport equipment, and IP routers. The fully documented CPCS reference design is now available free of charge. All documentation and design files can be downloaded from the Xilinx web site at www.xilinx.com/esp/cpcs.Mountain View, California Actel Corp. reported results of a third-party investigation that verified that field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs)—based on flash and antifuse technologies as with Actel products—are immune to the configuration upsets caused by high-energy neutrons. Such neutrons are naturally generated in the earth's atmosphere. The study also determined that SRAM-based FPGAs are vulnerable to neutron-induced configuration loss under high-altitude conditions and in ground-based applications. The tests, which followed the industry-prescribed JESD-89 test methodology, were conducted in February of this year by iRoC Technologies. The tests were all conducted at the Los Alamos Neutron Sciences Center at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. The results of the independent study are documented in the report entitled, "Radiation Results of SER Test of Actel, Xilinx, and Altera FPGA Instances." This report is now available free of charge at http://www.actel.com/products/rescenter/ser/index.html. For more information on Actel's FPGA technologies, go to www.actel.com.San Jose, California Altera Corp. has expanded its family of low-cost serial-configuration devices with the addition of 16-Mb and 64-Mb versions. These devices are used to configure field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) during system power up or at other times required by system operations. They deliver the densities needed to support all members of Altera's new family of high-performance Stratix II FPGAs. The devices also support multiple FPGAs within the same system, helping to reduce system costs and complexity. They support Cyclone FPGAs and future Altera FPGAs as well.

The EPCS16 and EPCS64 serial-configuration devices will be offered in pin-compatible, 16-pin SOIC packages qualified to industrial-temperature specifications. The 16-Mb EPCS16 device will be available in the third quarter of 2004. The 64-Mb EPCS64 device will be available in the fourth quarter of 2004. Projected volume pricing by the end of 2005 for the EPCS16 device is $7.50. For the EPCS64 device, it is $20.00. For more information on these products, go to www.altera.com.
