Digital Camera Module Eyes Mobile Market

April 1, 2001

Occupying just 10 mm x 10 mm x 7.5 mm worth of space, the highly integrated Digital Camera Module suits the next generation of cellular phones, personal digital assistants and other portable communication devices. The module operates from 2.8V, drawing 50 mW at an image refresh rate of 15 frame/sec. It captures both still and moving images at common intermediate format (CIF, 352 x 288) and Quarter CIF (QCIF, 176 x 144) resolutions. Other features include a dedicated coprocessor, low-profile lens assembly, 20-pin flex connector, and a CMOS-based sensor. Through an I2C interface, the camera performs automatic gain and exposure control, white balance, and black/dark level calibration. Pricing is $20 each in high volumes.
